Rowfant Station lives on YouTube

Just discovered on YouTube is a silent clip of a Southern Railways train passing through Rowfant Station on its journey from Tunbridge Wells Central to Three Bridges.

Opened on 9th July 1855, Rowfant - and subsequently Grange Road (Crawley Down) - were the only stations along the original route from Three Bridges to East Grinstead. In 1866 the railway was extended from East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells.

A century later, in the 1960s, the whole line was closed as part of the line closures proposed by the then British Rail Chairman, Dr Beeching.

Worth Way is now a seven mile (11 kilometre) route from Three Bridges through open countryside to East Grinstead following the old railway line. Most of the East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells section of the line is now Forest Way Country Park.

The train passes through Rowfant Station 2.02 minutes to 2.26 minutes into the 3.39 minute clip.
